Jeannette Song

Jing-Sheng Jeannette Song is the R. David Thomas Professor in the Operations Management area of the Duke University Fuqua School of Business.

Professor Song studies supply chain management and operations strategy, topics including supply chain inventory optimization and resilience strategies, Assemble-to-Order and supply chain flexibility, data-driven dynamic inventory, pricing, and bundling decisions, 3D printing, blockchain, and supply chain digitization, e-commerce strategies and network design, and socially responsible operations. She has published numerious articles in leading international academic journals such as Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM), and Operations Research. She edited the Research Handbook on Inventory Management by Edward Elgar Publishing (forthcoming in 2023), co-authored the book, The Art of Matching: Joy of Living and Operations Innovations (in Chinese), and co-edited the book, Supply Chain Structures: Coordination, Information and Optimization. She is the recipient of several research grants from the U.S. National Science Foundation.

Professor Song is an INFORMS Fellow and a Distinguished Fellow of the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management (MSOM) Society. She is a Department Editor for Management Science and a Department Editor for Service Science. She is also a former Area Editor for Operations Research and a former Department Editor for IIE Transactions. She is a former president of the MSOM society and a recipient of the MSOM Distinguished Service Award for her many contributions to the society.

Professor Song is active in cultivating the Operations Management research environment in China. She is a recipient of the Distinguished Overseas Young Scholar Award (海外杰出青年)by the Natural Science Foundation of China and was named a Chang Jiang Chaired Professor by the Ministry of Education in China (教育部长江学者讲座教授). She is an Overseas Expert of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (中国科学院海外评审专家). In 2017, she received Outstanding Contribution Award from the Chinese Scholars Association for Management Science and Engineering (CSAMSE).

Professor Song teaches and has taught Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Global Operations, and Global Academic Travel Experience (China) in the Daytime and Executive MBA programs and the Master of Management Studies Programs. Before joining Duke University, Professor Song served on the faculties of Columbia University and University of California, Irvine. She has also held visiting positions at University of California, Berkeley, Cornell University, as well as various major universities in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Mainland China.
